Subject: Micropolis SCSI Hard Drives
There have been reported problems with various models of the Micropolis
hard drives, specifically the Micropolis 1624.
The problem is related to corrupted data being retrieved from the hard
drive, and is related to how MICROPOLIS does cache pre-reads on the hard
drive and their error recovery methods. We have been successful in
duplicating this problem with the Micropolis 1908.
"Micropolis" has corrected a similar problem that existed with the
Micropolis 1528 with a BIOS upgrade.
At this point, we are verifying that above problem with model numbers 1624
and 1908 is not related to any AMI-SCSI BIOS bug. The Micropolis 1624 is
currently on order.
The following Micropolis Mizer drives:
Micropolis 1908 (1.6GB EP),
Micropolis 1548 (2.0GB), and
Micropolis 1624 (760MB Half Height).
show data miscompares or a system crash under heavy disk operations.
Micropolis has a fixed for this problem, ROM filename "HZ2P-2.BIN" and is
currently available from Micropolis.
The "HZ2P-2.BIN" file and its associated files maybe available on our BBS
(American Megatrends BSS) soon.
The latest firmware will reflect the following firmware
number "..MZ1077802".
Other Micropolis drives may demonstrate similar problem...
